According to a report from French newspaper Le Parisien, Liverpool are trying to convince Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly to join the club.
It’s claimed that Liverpool are using Koulibaly’s friendship with Sadio Mane to try and win the race for the Napoli star.
Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City are keen too, which is why Liverpool hope that joining forces with Mane appeals to the 29-year-old.
The pair are not only Senegal international teammates, but also played together at Metz in France, meaning they go way back.
Koulibaly is undoubtedly one of the top centre backs in Europe, but we’re doubting that this particular rumour is true.
Liverpool have three natural centre backs in Virgil van Dijk, Joe Gomez and Joel Matip, whilst Fabinho has shown that he can cover there brilliantly.

Add in that youngsters Billy Koumetio and Sepp van den Berg are highly-rated, and splashing huge money on a 29-year-old centre back just doesn’t add up.
If Liverpool do sign another centre back, it would almost certainly be somebody younger and cheaper than Koulibaly – even if he is friends with Mane.
