Kalvin Phillips is reportedly keen to join Aston Villa this summer and not planning to sign a new contract at Leeds United.

According to a report from The Sun, Kalvin Phillips is showing little interest in signing a new contract at Leeds as he continues to be linked with a move to Aston Villa this summer.

Phillips’ future has had a major question mark hanging over it for much of the window. He was outstanding during his first campaign working under Marcelo Bielsa, and his form attracted the attention of Dean Smith following the Villans’ promotion to the Premier League – which came just a few weeks after the midfielder produced a masterclass up against Jack Grealish at Elland Road.

The Sun reports that Villa however, are not prepared to pay more than £15 million for the 23-year-old. Meanwhile, Leeds are reportedly hoping to agree a new deal with the academy graduate.

But The Sun suggests that the offer on the table from Leeds does not appeal to Phillips, and he is prepared to spend another year on his current terms to try and strengthen his hand next summer when he will have just 12 months on his contract at Elland Road. It is noted that he could end up choosing to stay at Leeds if they are promoted.

Phillips’ reported stance is hardly going to rock the boat too much at Leeds. United will have already been aware that he is Premier League-bound if enjoys another campaign like the one that he has just had.

Of course, tying the midfielder down to longer terms would ensure that Leeds could demand a larger fee for Phillips if they become resigned to losing him to a top flight side. But United will be hoping that Phillips will soon be playing at the highest level without having to move anywhere.

If the Whites are promoted during the coming season, it is much more difficult to imagine Phillips pressing for a move away as his boyhood club can offer him the Premier League football that he is now seemingly craving.
