However, according to the report, the Magpies has not made an offer yet. It has also been claimed that Hamburg are willing to sell the 26-year-old midfielder in the summer transfer window.

The former Schalke midfielder joined Hamburg from Tottenham on a permanent contract in the summer of 2015 for a transfer fee reported by The Guardian to be worth £4.6 million following a loan spell at the German club in 2014-15.

Holtby scored one goal and provided six assists in 29 Bundesliga appearances for Hamburg during the 2016-17 campaign, according to WhoScored.

Newcastle are not the only Premier League club who are (reportedly) interested in signing the former Tottenham midfielder, though.

The Mirror has claimed of Bournemouth’s interest in Holtby; the report has also stated that the midfielder could be available for around £5m.
