Everton were once reportedly keen on striker Eder, who scored the winning goal for Portugal against France in the Euro 2016 final.
According to the Liverpool Echo, Everton were once keen on a deal for Portugal’s Euro 2016 hero Eder.
The striker proved to be the difference in the Euro 2016 final on Sunday as he scored an extra-time goal to secure a 1-0 win over France.
The goal came as something of a surprise to Premier League fans, especially those of Swansea City, who watched the striker struggle at the club last season.
They weren’t the first Premier League side to have shown an interest in him though, with Everton keen on his services back in 2012.
According to the Liverpool Echo, then Everton boss David Moyes had him scouted by assistant Steve Round and received glowing reports on the striker.
Indeed, he was so impressed by the reviews he received that he flew out to Portugal to watch the striker himself.
Unfortunately, the newspaper reports that Academica only owned 45% of the player, with the rest belonging to his former clubs and that made a deal overly complicated to complete.
Everton decided to pass on a move and will now surely be wondering what may have been after last night’s winning strike.
