According to the Daily Mail, Sami Khedira snubbed Everton on deadline day in order to return to the Bundesliga with Hertha Berlin.

The Daily Mail directly state that the Toffees were rejected by the 77-cap Germany international, who has a World Cup and Champions League winners medal.

It is said that the 33-year-old was a long-term target for the Merseysiders, although that didn’t prevent Khedira from returning to his homeland.

The former Real Madrid man brought an end to five-and-a-half years at Juventus to sign for Hertha Berlin.

Khedira still had six months left on his contract in Turin, although an agreement was reached to end it early.

Ancelotti and the German worked together in Madrid.

At the Santiago Bernabeu, the pair won the UEFA Super Cup, Copa del Rey, FIFA Club World Cup and the Champions League.

While it must be frustrating to lose out on a long-term target, this shouldn’t be a big deal for Everton, in our view.

Ancelotti already has midfield depth in the likes of Tom Davies, Andre Gomes, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Allan, James Rodriguez, Gylfi Sigurdsson and the recovering Jean-Philippe Gbamin.

The main issue was finding a new striker to help Dominic Calvert-Lewin, after Cenk Tosun, Moise Kean and Ellis Simms were all loaned out.

In Josh King, Ancelotti has sorted that issue.

Some may be underwhelmed by the 51-cap Norway international’s arrival.

However, he has 48 Premier League goals to his name and is a good backup option for Calvert-Lewin, seeing as they both have similar playing styles.
