Everton are aiming to bring in two centre forwards this summer.

Everton Director of Football Marcel Brands speaks to the media during a press conference at USM Finch Farm on June 4, 2018 in Halewood, England.

Everton clearly need to bring in firepower in attack this summer, and it seems that director of football Marcel Brands has hatched a plan.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin has performed admirably lately, but both Oumar Niasse and Cenk Tosun look set to move on this summer, meaning a couple of strikers may be needed.

The Liverpool Echo report that Everton officials are discussing a big summer move for Lille’s Portuguese forward Rafael Leao, with the teenager thriving in France.

However, the report also notes that Everton want a second striker to arrive if Tosun leaves, this time targeting a more experienced frontman to save piling all the pressure on youngster Leao.

A host of players would fit that bill, but one player perfect for the role is Salomon Rondon, with the Daily Star claiming the Toffees are keen on signing him.

Rondon, 29, has hit nine goals and five assists in 25 games for Newcastle United this season, impressing on loan from West Bromwich Albion.

Lille's Rafael Alexandre Conceição Leão during the French Ligue 1 match between Lille OSC (LOSC) and AS Monaco (ASM) at Stade Pierre Mauroy on March 15, 2019 in Lille, France.

There now appears to be an internal struggle, with Rafael Benitez wanting him permanently but owner Mike Ashley wanting younger players instead – and that may just left Everton in.

Everton have the funds to go and easily strike a deal with West Brom, and Newcastle may well be left fearing very, very fearful at Everton’s alleged striker plan given just how perfect Rondon would be as a veteran centre forward to lead the line until Leao is ready.
