According to The Scottish Sun, Eddie Howe already has his first Celtic move in mind, as he wants to bring Richard Hughes to Parkhead with him.

It’s claimed that Howe is set to become Celtic manager imminently, and a £2million-a-year deal could be announced as early as next week with the Bhoys confident of a deal.

Howe is thought to be excited about the job, and already knows who he wants at Celtic in a director of football position, with Hughes the top target.

Many had wondered whether David Webb would be Celtic’s new director of football given recent links and his relationship with Howe, but it’s Hughes now being pursued.

An official approach is expected to Bournemouth for Hughes, and the pair could reunite having worked together down on the South Coast.

Hughes was born in Glasgow but had a fascinating start to life in football, joining Atalanta back in 1992 before heading to Arsenal just a year later, with most of his career then spent with Bournemouth and Portsmouth.

Hughes picked up five caps for Scotland in his playing days, and could now return north of the border to help Howe by operating in the transfer market moving forward.

Whether Bournemouth are willing to let Hughes go remains to be seen, but he now looks to be ahead of Fergal Harkin and the aforementioned Webb in the race for the director of football job with Celtic.
