According to The Telegraph, Crystal Palace actually managed to fend off Tottenham to sign Joachim Andersen in July 2021.
What’s the story?
Well, this was quite the coup for Crystal Palace, in more ways than one.
You may be wondering how the south Londoners managed to get the better of the north Londoners in this transfer battle, given the difference in stature between the two.
According to The Telegraph, Dougie Freedman – Director of Football at Crystal Palace – used Tottenham’s managerial uncertainty to swoop in and sign Andersen ahead of them.
The Guardian believe Crystal Palace signed the Denmark international for just £14.9m, with a further £2.13m in add-ons.
That is a phenomenal piece of business for a player aged just 25, and one who is arguably yet to hit his prime.
Crystal Palace must be delighted they beat Tottenham to Joachim Andersen

In Andersen, Patrick Vieira has a fantastic defender with many strings to his bow – he is ideal for the modern requirements of a centre-back.
The £70,000-a-week man can pick out a pass from inside his own box, often spraying inch-perfect passes around the field.
Andersen is also a solid defender, who has worked brilliantly alongside Marc Guèhi this season – the pair compliment each other very well.

In the 3-0 win over Arsenal on Monday 4th April, the Dane even managed to grab two assists, showcasing his impressing attacking capabilities.
For just £14.9m, Freedman’s capture of Andersen has to be in contention for signing of the season, without a shadow of a doubt.
