Costel Pantilimon’s transfer from Watford to Nottingham Forest is on hold, according to the Daily Mirror (liveblog entry 14:50).

It was only yesterday (Tuesday) that Daily Mail reported (liveblog entry 11:59) Forest had opened talks about a permanent deal for Pantilimon, who spent the second half of last season on loan at the City Ground.

But according to the Daily Mirror, the future of another previously on-loan ‘keeper has complicated proceedings.

Watford are said to have been expecting the full time capture of Orestis Karnezis in a £1 million deal from Udinese.

But the newspaper reports the Hornets’ move has been hijacked by Napoli, and Karnezis is set to remain in Italy instead.

It remains to be seen whether Watford will turn to alternative targets or retain Pantilimon’s services should they indeed miss out on the Greek.

Nottingham Forest’s goalkeeping position has often proved problematic in recent seasons, although the Romanian’s arrival brought a marked improvement.
