Charlton Athletic and Stoke City have experienced contrasting starts to the new Championship season.

The Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer is the latest name being linked to the Stoke City job.

The Daily Mirror reports (October 1, page 49) that the current Stoke boss Nathan Jones ‘knows he is on borrowed time’ ahead of Tuesday’s visit of the Potters’ relegation rivals Huddersfield Town.

Jones has won just four of his 32 games in charge of City, and out-of-work bosses such as Chris Hughton, David Moyes and Tony Pulis have already been suggested as possible replacements.

But according to The Daily Mirror, Bowyer has also been ‘touted as a successor’.

Bowyer led Charlton to promotion last season against the odds, and has the Addicks sixth in the Championship nine games in.

That strong start had Huddersfield calling before the Terriers hired Danny and Nicky Cowley from Lincoln City.

And speaking to Talksport about Huddersfield’s interest last month, the former England midfielder said: “At the end of the day I work for Charlton and I love working for Charlton. I think what we’re doing here is good and we’ve turned it around basically, if you want to look at it like that. When I first took over we weren’t in the situation that we are now, as a football club.

“That’s why I’m still here because I felt this is the right place for me to be. Things are going well. I’ve got a group of players that want to learn from me and give me everything. So it would have been silly for me to have left at the moment.”

But it remains to be seen whether Bowyer could be tempted by Stoke, who spent a decade in the Premier League before coming down the season before last.

Are Stoke a good fit for the Charlton boss?
