According to The Scottish Sun, Celtic’s talks with Eddie Howe have become complicated due to his demand for Richard Hughes to be brought to the club.

It’s claimed that Howe has verbally agreed to become the next Celtic manager, and the hope is that he will have the deal signed, sealed and delivered this week.

He has though asked for Bournemouth technical director Hughes to be brought to Parkhead as director of football, and that has caused talks to become ‘complicated’.

Celtic were putting plans in place to land a new director of football anyway, but Hughes wasn’t a name on their wish list, with groundwork laid for Manchester City’s Fergal Harkin to arrive.

Going for Hughes would mean Celtic rip up those plans, and whilst talks have become tricky because of that demand, the Bhoys are still thought to be ‘confident’ that they will iron out the issues.

Hughes, 41, was born in Scotland but actually started his career with Atalanta and Arsenal, before spending the majority of his career with Bournemouth and Portsmouth.

A Glasgow lad, Hughes may fancy a return to his roots, and working with Howe has to be appealing as Celtic attempt to chase down Rangers next season.

The job to rebuild Celtic won’t be an easy one, but Howe thinks Hughes can do it – and he may now be brought in ahead of Celtic’s other director of football targets if Howe gets his way.
