The Scottish Sun report that Celtic could target Sheffield Wednesday’s Keiren Westwood on loan, as their search for a new goalkeeper continues.
Westwood is nearing a return to contention after six weeks out injured, but may struggle to displace stand-in shot-stopper Joe Wildsmith, who has performed admirably in his absence.
Another Wednesday academy ‘keeper, Cameron Dawson, has also impressed in two FA Cup outings this month. And that could convince the Owls, whose transfer plans may be hit by Financial Fair Play, to part with Westwood should Celtic make an approach.
The Scottish champions recently lost their number one, Craig Gordon, to injury, and The Scottish Sun report they have turned to Dundee’s Scott Bain following talks for Motherwell’s Trevor Carson. Bain is currently on loan to Hibernian, however, which could complicate matters.
Westwood is a fans favourite at Sheffield Wednesday, and has been named Owls player of the year in two of his three full seasons at Hillsborough.
The 33-year-old, who also made the Championship’s team of the year in 2014-15, has 21 caps for the Republic of Ireland, which could make him a popular signing at Celtic.
