Celtic are reportedly interested in signing Uruguay international Giorgian De Arrascaeta’s asking price.

Uruguay's Giorgian de Arrascaeta (L) reacts during the international friendly football match Austria v Uruguay in Vienna, on November 14, 2017.

According to a report from the Daily Record, Celtic have the funds to meet Giorgian De Arrascaeta’s asking price this summer, but may find that their downfall comes when those interested in the Uruguay international put their contract offers on the table.

The Record reports that the Hoops have scouted the 24-year-old on several occasions in recent times, while Newcastle United have also become admirers of the attacking midfielder, who helped his country reach the quarter-finals of the World Cup in Russia and will cost in excess of £10 million.

The Sun’s initial report on Celtic’s interest suggested that De Arrascaeta will command a fee of £18 million, and that may have left many fearing that the Bhoys were out of the race before it had really begun.

However, while the Record suggests that the attacker will cost an eight-figure fee, they report that Celtic have the capabilities to meet his asking price. That would perhaps hint that Brendan Rodgers is optimistic that the Cruziero ace will cost less than the £18 million previously suggested.

But before Celtic fans start to believe that they may be about to pull off one of the most sensational deals of the summer, the Record adds that the Hoops may struggle to compete with some of their rivals for his signature when it comes to wages.

If Celtic are willing to meet De Arrascaeta’s asking price, then you would imagine that Rodgers will be urging the club to do all they can to make sure that they do not fall at the next hurdle when it comes to potential talks.

It could potentially prove to be a game-changing signing for the Scottish Premiership champions. And while the Parkhead faithful would have initially been forgiven for believing that the interest would probably lead to nothing due to the potential finances involved, the latest reports perhaps hint that Celtic have some belief that they could pull off a stunning deal.
