Cardiff City were linked with Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen in January.
According to a report in Wales Online, Cardiff City have no plans on making a move for Hull City’s Jarrod Bowen this summer despite making a reported £12 million bid late in the January transfer window.
The talented Hull attacker told reporters for the Daily Mail how he opted against joining the Bluebirds in January, highlighting the whole situation as uncomfortable following the events of Emiliano Sala.
“Of course, it was nothing to do with how I view Cardiff as a club, and any player will tell you it’s their dream to play in the Premier League,” Jarrod told the Daily Mail.
“But the whole story around Sala was just so tragic. I know it caused a lot of shock and upset in our dressing-room at Hull, and I am sure it was the same around the country.”
“To join Cardiff knowing that he was meant to play for them would have been incredibly difficult and not something that filled me with any enthusiasm.”
Bowen has been one of the Championship’s outstanding players over the past 18 months, scoring 36 goals since the start of last season.
Wales Online claim Cardiff will make a striker and a central midfielder their top targets this summer, but if the reports are true then Hull can breathe a sigh of relief as they will look to hold on to their prized asset.
Bowen, 22, has enormous potential and Hull have the option of extending his contract which is due to expire in 2020 by one year, leaving them in a strong position when it comes to negotiating a potential sale.
It would be a surprise if several Premier League clubs don’t come in for the player this summer, with many seeing him as a similar talent to that of James Maddison who joined Leicester City for £20 million last year.
Cardiff’s transfer targets will no doubt depend on what division the club are in next season, with Neil Warnock’s side currently in the Premier League’s bottom three and two points from safety.
