Pedro Caixinha’s Glasgow Rangers will take on Old Firm rivals and Brendan Rodgers’s Celtic at Ibrox in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday.

Rangers defender Bruno Alves will not play against Celtic this weekend, according to STV.

It has been reported that Alves has been ruled out of the Old Firm derby at Ibrox on Saturday afternoon.

The Portuguese central defender suffered a calf injury during the Scottish League Cup quarter-final tie against Partick Thistle away from home on Tuesday evening.

According to STV, Alves has been told to rest and may be out for a couple of weeks.

The report has also claimed that Declan John will not feature for Rangers against Celtic in the Scottish Premiership this weekend.

The Wales international left-back suffered a thigh injury against Partick at the Firhill Stadium.

Despite being the visiting team, Celtic will head into the Old Firm derby on Saturday afternoon as favourites.

Rangers manager Pedro Caixinha is seen prior to the Betfred League Cup Quarter Final at Firhill Stadium on September 19, 2017 in Glasgow, Scotland.

The (reported) absence of Alves will mean that the Rangers defender will be under even more pressure, and the Gers’ chances of picking up all three points from the encounter now looks very slim.

Alves is one of the best centre-backs in the Scottish Premiership and is a key figure in Pedro Caixinha’s team.
