According to Pianeta Serie B, Brighton and Hove Albion are leading Leeds United in the race to sign Brescia defender Jhon Chancellor.

Brescia suffered relegation from Serie A, and it’s claimed that Massimo Cellino wants €3million (£2.7million) for the Venezuelan defender.

That’s cheap for the former Al Ahli defender, who has 15 caps for his country and scored three times in Serie A last season.

Another centre back for the Seagulls?

Graham Potter certainly seems to like a centre back if this report is to be believed, with Brighton already having a host of options there.

Lewis Dunk and Adam Webster are the first-choice centre backs, whilst Joel Veltman has been signed from Ajax and Ben White is back from his loan at Leeds.

Dan Burn is also a centre back by trade despite being predominantly used as a left back last season, so Brighton are pretty well-stocked in that area of the pitch.

Yes, Shane Duffy and Matt Clarke have been loaned out to Celtic and Derby County respectively, but adding another centre back seems odd.

Chancellor doesn’t appear to have great versatility either, he’s a centre back only and stands at a giant 6ft 6in tall, possessing great power and aerial ability.

It would be odd to see Brighton go for Chancellor given their options there, and he doesn’t really fit the mould for Leeds given his lack of pace, so we’re sceptical of many parts in this rumour.
