Thomas Tuchel was in ‘close contact’ with Tottenham Hotspur before deciding to become the new Bayern Munich boss.

That’s according to Kicker over in Germany, who report that Tuchel was speaking to Tottenham about becoming their new manager.

It’s stated that Tuchel was encouraged by the project on offer in North London and was interested in the job.

However, Tuchel is now set to become the new Bayern boss after a staggering night on Thursday.

Bayern have remarkably decided to part ways with Julian Nagelsmann after a tricky season for Bayern’s standards.

Bayern are wasting no time and are handing Tuchel the reins, with the German expected to take charge of training on Monday.

Tuchel hails from Krumbach in Bavaria and allegedly lives in Munich, so this move is perfect for him.

Thomas Tuchel would have been a strange Tottenham appointment

We can understand it to an extent; Tuchel is out of work at the moment and no doubt desperate to find his next job.

Tuchel won a Champions League with Chelsea, has Premier League experience and he has regularly played a back three, which could ease a transition to the next manager after Antonio Conte.

Tottenham have to get out of this trend of appointing former Chelsea managers; it didn’t work with Jose Mourinho and it hasn’t worked with Conte either.

This would again feel like a manager who would be expecting Tottenham to compete with the elite for big signings, just like Conte did.

Tottenham need to go in another direction now and find their new Mauricio Pochettino – an up-and-comer who can galvanise the fans and the players whilst developing younger talents.

Tuchel just doesn’t seem like the right man for the job and many fans will probably be delighted to hear that he is heading to Germany rather than North London.

In an ironic twist though, Nagelsmann – the man Tuchel is replacing – makes more sense for Tottenham and if they can pull off that move then Spurs would be over the moon.
