According to the Mirror, Marcelo Bielsa told Victor Orta one thing in regards to the January transfer window.
The Mirror‘s David Anderson claims that the ex-Marseille boss told Sporting Director Victor Orta not to sign anyone during January.
Anderson adds that Bielsa hates the January transfer window, and seemingly wanted no part to play in the winter trolley dash many others engage in.
Based on past events, the Leeds boss is spot on to adopt this stance.
How do we mean?
Well, Bielsa hasn’t had much luck when it comes to doing deals in January.
Leeds famously saw a Deadline Day move for Dan James collapse at the final hurdle after Swansea stopped returning the club’s calls.
The Wales international had even done his official photos, before the Swans pulled the plug.
Additionally, Leeds faced further chaos in a January window when they signed Jean-Kevin Augustin from RB Leipzig last year.
The Frenchman made just three Championship appearances, all of which came from the bench, before a legal row broke out.
As The Athletic detailed, Leeds agreed an obligation to buy the 23-year-old for £18 million if they achieved promotion to the Premier League.
Crucially, however, promotion had to be secured before June to trigger this clause, which it wasn’t due to lockdown bringing football to a halt.
On the basis of these two transfer blunders, we’re not surprised that Bielsa wants no part in the January transfer window at all.
