According to The Sun, Preston North End defender Ben Davies currently looks more likely to join Celtic on a pre-contract agreement than move to Bournemouth.

The Cherries want to sign Davies as a replacement for Nathan Ake, who left Bournemouth for Manchester City this summer.

Davies is a left-footed, ball-playing defender with impressive pace, so that does make sense for Bournemouth to view him as a possible successor.

However, their pursuit may be in vain as the report claims that Davies is currently more likely to sign a pre-contract agreement with Celtic.

The Bhoys have been linked with Davies in recent weeks, despite bringing Brighton defender Shane Duffy on loan to Parkhead.

With Duffy only on loan until next summer, it may make sense for Celtic to line up a defender for next season – and that’s where Davies can come in.

The 25-year-old is out of contract at the end of the season, and Preston have so far failed to secure an agreement with their homegrown centre back.

Davies could merely wait a few months and secure an exit on his terms – but North End may now sense the prospect of lost revenue and believe a deal this summer will be better for them.
