The 32-year-old was an unused substitute due to injury for the Championship clash with Nottingham Forest on Sunday.

A report in the Birmingham Mail has claimed that Aston Villa boss Roberto Di Matteo should be able to call upon Mile Jedinak for Wednesday’s clash with Brentford.

The summer signing was on the bench for the Villans’ clash with Nottingham Forest on Sunday, but was not called upon during the game after picking up an injury while on international duty with Australia, the Mail reports.

But the Mail adds that the 32-year-old has been back training this week, and could now be in line to make only his second appearance for the club when they come up against the Bees.

Should the former Crystal Palace man start, many fans will surely question why he did not feature in the latter stages against Forest.

Di Matteo had one substitution available to him after Villa had turned the game on its head and gone 2-1 in front with around 15 minutes to go.

And having brought striker Rudy Gestede on for holding midfielder Gary Gardner, Jedinak’s presence would have given the team a lot more balance, and may have helped the side prevent Henri Lansbury’s equaliser.

And if Jedinak is capable of starting against Dean Smith’s men on Wednesday, then he would have surely been able to help the side see out the final few minutes at the weekend.
