Aston Villa defender Frederic Guilbert could be a potential outgoing for the club this month, according to a report.

The Athletic claim that Guilbert will be moved on at the ‘right price’ after falling down the pecking order at Villa Park.

Villa’s decision to sign Matty Cash in the summer pushed the Frenchman third on the list behind the Nottingham Forest academy graduate and the experienced Ahmed Elmohamady.

Some Villa fans will feel that it’s a harsh call on Guilbert because whilst the club were abject in defence last season, it was more a collective problem rather than an individual one.

But Dean Smith made the harsh call in the summer and its one that is paying off given Cash’s form.

It remains to be seen who knocks on Villa’s door for Guilbert’s services because he is yet to play a single minute in the Premier League this season.

The signs don’t look good for the 2019 January signing, but anything can change at any moment so how much will Guilbert’s patience be tested?
