90Min claim Bayer Leverkusen left-back Mitchel Bakker wants to join Newcastle United this month. The Toon want a left-back, and are ready to offer a quick profit – given Leverkusen only just signed him last summer.

Bakker, 21, joined Leverkusen after clocking up 45 appearances for Paris Saint-Germain – largely under Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel. Back in 2020, Tuchel told RMC Sport that Bakker is “very reliable”.

Newcastle currently have Jamal Lewis, Matt Ritchie and Paul Dummett as options on the left of their defence. Lewis, though, has struggled since his £15million move. Ritchie is a right winger, and Dummett is a fringe player.

The Mail report that Newcastle are in talks to sign Bakker, who joined Leverkusen for just £8.5million. Newcastle are ready to offer Leverkusen a profit, and 90Min say Bakker is now open to joining the new Newcastle era.

Bakker wants Newcastle move: Leverkusen star different approach

So far this window, Newcastle have brought in Chris Wood and Kieran Trippier. They are also targeting Diego Carlos and Jesse Lingard. All of which, are in the prime of their careers – between 28 and 31.

Three of which, have huge Premier League experience – while Carlos is considered one of La Liga’s best central defenders. Bakker is a different approach, a player who is showing enormous potential at just 21.

But Bakker is already showing enormous quality. Defensively, he has all the traits expected of a centre-back but going forward, he is efficient. At Leverkusen, he has four goal involvements in 15. A very good signing.
