Manchester City will reportedly have scouts in Argentina tonight to watch San Lorenzo talent Nicolas Fernandez Mercau, who is on the club’s radar.
According to TNT Sports, City are keeping tabs on the 22-year-old left-back, who has caught the eye of the Premier League giants during their scouting trips to Argentina in recent months.
City recently signed River Plate sensation Julian Alvarez, and now, the Manchester giants are setting their sights on Fernandez, who is set to start for San Lorenzo tonight against Gimnasia in the second match of the 2022 Argentine Primera Division.
Fernandez enjoyed a successful campaign in 2021, with the defender making 21 appearances in all competitions for the Buenos Aires-based club, and this season is expected to be an even bigger one for the youngster.
With Oleksandr Zinchenko likely to leave City in the summer, a replacement left-back could be needed at the Etihad Stadium, and Fernandez could prove to be an option given his growing reputation in Argentina.
Hailed as ‘sensational’ as per Vamos Ciclon, Fernandez is a late bloomer who is starting to show his quality in the Argentine top-flight, and for City, the fullback could be an interesting signing should the club make a move in the summer.
Fernandez could join Alvarez in Argentine revolution at City

With City already securing the signing of Alvarez and the Manchester giants also scouting the likes of Exequiel Zeballos and Valentin Barco, an Argentina revolution is coming to the club for the first time since the days of Sergio Aguero and Pablo Zabaleta.
And Fernandez could be the latest addition to the party, with City more than likely having to sign a left-back in the summer should Zinchenko decide to leave Manchester.
