Manchester City are expected to make their move for reported Liverpool target Erling Braut Haaland in January, Eurosport suggest.

Liverpool have been strongly linked with Haaland recently, with Salzburg director Christoph Freund saying he expects him to end up at Anfield (Sky 90).

But it seems that the Reds face competition from Pep Guardiola’s men for the goal-machine now, as City eye up attacking targets.

With Sergio Aguero showing signs of age, City are now on the hunt for a number nine, and Haaland is said to be a genuine target.

That could put Freund’s prediction about Haaland arriving at Liverpool into serious doubt.

City have more financial power than Liverpool, and the Reds are unlikely to be in any position to make a move in January.

City, instead, are said to be monitoring his progress and are expected to make fresh enquiries in the new year.

That could be bad news for Liverpool in more than one sense.

Not only would they be losing a potential target to their main rivals, but Haaland would also make City a more potent force.

The Norwegian striker, who was hailed as ‘special’ by Dortmund boss Lucien Favre (Goal), has been in remarkable form in the Bundesliga and is now regarded as one of the most dangerous attacking players in football.
