Manchester City are reportedly interested in signing Argentine teenager Maximo Perrone following the addition of Julian Alvarez last month.
According to ESPN via Sports Illustrated, the Premier League giants are tracking the 19-year-old midfielder, with Perrone being hailed by Argentina’s media as ‘the jewel of the country’, such is the youngster’s potential.
As per the report, Perrone has a release clause of $10m (£7.3m) and Velez Sarsfield have turned down approaches for the midfielder in recent weeks, with City expected to launch an offer in the coming months.
With City making major moves to hoover up South American talent over the last 12 months, it wouldn’t be much of a surprise if Pep Guardiola’s side make an approach to sign Perrone, who is yet to even make his senior debut for Velez with the new season yet to start in Argentina.
City’s scouting in the continent has increased massively, and with City Football Group clubs like Girona and New York City FC hugely benefitting from South American signings, this revelation is hardly going to slow down any time soon.
Talents such as Yangel Herrera and Taty Castellanos have been signed by CFG from South America and have flourished, and Perrone could well be the next name City sign from the continent to make a name for themselves on a global stage.

City are slowly becoming a club where many youngsters what to play for one day, and Perrone could establish himself as a starter for the Premier League giants if the Manchester side can manage his career perfectly.
Indeed, a player labelled as ‘a jewel’ for a football powerhouse as big as Argentina deserves some respect, and Perrone could easily become a superstar for City should Guardiola’s side give him the right development plan.
