Manchester City captain Fernandinho will reportedly stay with the club in January despite interest from Brazil, with Pep Guardiola preparing a ‘major’ coaching offer in the New Year.

According to journalist Jorge Nicola, the 36-year-old midfielder will not be heading back to Brazil despite reports in recent weeks.

Fernandinho has been linked with a January move to Atletico Mineiro, however, it appears that the veteran Premier League star will stay in Manchester.

As per Nicola, City intend to keep Fernandinho this January, with the midfielder already having an invitational offer from Guardiola to join the coaching staff following his retirement from football.

Fernandinho, who has made just six starts this season, has been part of the City golden years for some time. And with his contract due to expire next summer, this will likely be the midfielder’s last year as a footballer.

Indeed, whilst Fernandinho will likely play regular football for Mineiro, it appears that the former Shakhtar Donetsk is eager to remain in England and see out the last year of his career with City, who he joined in 2013.

Fernandinho will go down along with the likes of Sergio Aguero and Vincent Kompany as a modern-day legend for City, and the club are making the right decision to offer him a chance to become a coach.

The veteran midfielder could become the next City player to step into the world of coaching and make a name for himself, and supporters will no doubt be eager for Fernandinho to remain with the club post-playing days.
