Eriksen will allegedly end something of a saga surrounding his future before Premier League action resumes.
Christian Eriksen will end speculation surrounding his future by signing a new four-year Tottenham Hotspur deal before the weekend, according to the London Evening Standard.
Something of a saga has developed in recent weeks regarding Eriksen’s future, with the Danish international angling for a significant pay rise at White Hart Lane.
The 24-year-old has less than two years left on his current deal, and speculation had begun to rise that he could be set for a move away from North London.
It was reported a month ago that Inter Milan had made the star midfielder their highest transfer priority as new head coach Frank de Boer sought a reunion with his former Ajax star, and Juventus were later credited with also holding an interest.
Eriksen was allegedly seeking a wage of around £150,000 per week, although those reports were later rubbished by the player and his representatives.
However, it is publicly known that the 24-year-old wants his valuable contribution to the side – he has not missed a Premier League match in two-and-a-half years, scoring 24 goals in that time – reflected in his earnings.
Eriksen allegedly earns around £30,000 per week on his current deal, with the club’s top earners in the £70,000-£80,000 bracket.
According to the Standard, his request has been granted, and he will now commit his future by signing a new four-year deal worth £75,000 per week after rejecting a lower offer earlier this year.
This clearly represents a big step up in pay for the Dane, but is just half of the eyebrow-raising sum he was said to have demanded.
Eriksen proved his worth for club as well as country this week, by scoring the only goal in Denmark’s 1-0 World Cup qualifying win over Armenia on Sunday.
