Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen is set to wind his contract down.
According to the Daily Mail, Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen is planning to reject a January move away from the club.
Eriksen, 27, looked set to leave the club this past summer having made it clear that he wanted a new challenge, especially with his contract expiring in 2020.
The Dane didn’t get a big move though, and Spurs themselves may have preferred to see him move on in order to cash in before he can leave for nothing.
It’s now claimed that Spurs are willing to drop their summer asking price of £100million to £30million in January – but Eriksen is willing to reject offers to leave unless they come from Barcelona or Real Madrid.
There are two reasons for this; one being that he thinks he will have more elite destinations to pick from as a free agent, and he thinks that he will earn a bigger signing-on fee as a free agent too.
That could be hugely frustrating for Tottenham, and it’s added that boss Mauricio Pochettino is ‘annoyed’ that Eriksen is still at the club when he clearly doesn’t want to be there.
Eriksen having one foot out of the Tottenham door may well be a contributing factor to the unease in the Spurs dressing room right now, with Pochettino telling The Mirror that there are splits in the squad.
With Eriksen, Toby Aldweireld and Jan Vertonghen all out of contract next summer, there are key players unsure of where their futures lie – and it looks like the difficult Eriksen situation is set to continue.
