Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Christian Eriksen is reportedly considering a move to Manchester United.
According to The Mirror, Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Christian Eriksen is now considering a move to join Manchester United this summer.
Eriksen, 27, has been a key player for Spurs since arriving from Ajax in 2013, and has racked up 66 goals in 277 appearances for the club.
With just one year left on his contract though, Spurs face having to sell the Danish international, and he signalled his intentions to leave earlier this month.
Now though, it’s believed that a dream move to Real Madrid is collapsing, and that means he’s having to consider other moves – and Manchester United is one such switch he’s having to give though to.
Eriksen had looked set for Real, but that move now looks unlikely. Not only have they splashed the cash on Eden Hazard, but boss Zinedine Zidane has allegedly decided that he’d rather have Manchester United’s Paul Pogba than Eriksen.
That’s a huge blow for Eriksen, but he’ll have surely seen the signs coming. Real have spent heavily this summer, and Zidane has made no secret of his admiration for his fellow Frenchman in the past.
Tottenham won’t want to sell to a direct rival, and United would have to come up with a £100million fee, which may ironically be funded by selling Pogba to Real.
The Red Devils have endured difficult talks with Daniel Levy in the past, and may have to do so again. As for Eriksen, the notion of leaving the Champions League finalists for a team in the Europa League is a strange one, but he may simply feel that he needs a totally new challenge – and United’s rebuild may well fit into that.
