The Chronicle report that Newcastle United’s imminent signing of Burnley striker Chris Wood is expected to see two players leave the club on loan. Elliot Anderson and Joe White are likely to join clubs in the Football League.

Wood, 30, is expected to complete a £20million move to Burnley after his release clause was met by the Tyneside club. The New Zealand international is said to have undergone a medical on Tuesday night.

It will allow him to play in Saturday afternoon’s relegation grudge match against Watford. Wood will have to be registered as a Newcastle player by midday on Thursday, with this weekend’s fixtures starting on Friday night.

The latest report from the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder, states that Newcastle signing Wood is likely to see both White and Anderson leave the club on loan. The latter is attracting interest from Championship side Luton Town.

White and Anderson need Newcastle loan exits, as Wood set to join

Having made two senior outings for the Toon last season, Anderson is yet to add to that this season. He has sparkled at Under-23 level, with 16 goals in 31 games from midfield, and desperately needs first-team football.

While White is not regarded as highly as Anderson, he is not far off. Again, a regular for the 23’s, he is yet to make his senior debut. But both are certainly outgrowing Premier League 2 football and loans are needed.

A move to the Championship for Anderson in an impressive Luton side, and perhaps the same for White – or at least, League One – would be solid loans.
