According to The Sunday Mirror (30/05, p76), Chris Wilder would want to bring Newcastle United striker Dwight Gayle to West Bromwich Albion if he lands the job.
Wilder left Sheffield United in March, and has yet to return to management despite mostly working wonders with the Blades.
He’s now a contender for a couple of jobs this summer, with West Brom being one of them following Sam Allardyce’s departure.
Wilder hasn’t landed the job yet, but it’s stated that he already has Gayle in mind as a potential signing.
The 30-year-old is out of contract this summer, but Newcastle offered a new three-year deal in April and have yet to confirm whether or not he signed it.
If he’s available for free, then Wilder may well be seeing Gayle as a bargain addition to kickstart a promotion push with West Brom next season.

Gayle spent the 2018-19 season on loan at West Brom, smashing 24 goals in 41 games for the club before heading back to Newcastle.
With just four Premier League starts this past season, Gayle just isn’t getting the football he needs at Newcastle, and a return to The Hawthorns could be appealing.
Let’s now see if Wilder gets the job, because Gayle would be an exciting first addition for fans to get behind.
