Sheffield United are reportedly keen on Sunderland midfielder George Honeyman

According to The Sun, Sheffield United boss Chris Wilder is pleading with the club’s board to splash the cash in January – and wants Sunderland midfielder George Honeyman snapped up.
The Blades lost 1-0 at Nottingham Forest on Saturday afternoon, and subsequently dropped down to third in the table having started the weekend in first place.
Wilder’s men remain in the hunt for a return to the Premier League, as they sit just one point behind Norwich City and Leeds United in the automatic promotion spots.
Whilst Fulham midfielder Oliver Norwood will sign permanently in January, United still want new signings, and The Sun report that Wilder is pleading with the Blades board to release funds for January signings.
It’s added that one of Wilder’s top targets is Sunderland midfielder George Honeyman, with the Black Cats captain catching the eye in League One.
A graduate of the Sunderland academy having first joined at the age of just 10, Honeyman has made his way up through the ranks, and now has more than 50 first-team appearances to his name.

The 24-year-old was named Sunderland captain following their relegation to League One, and has notched two goals and two assists this season as he attempts to take the club back to the second tier.
However, Sheffield United could look to bring in Honeyman, with his attacking abilities from midfield perfectly suiting Wilder’s 5-3-2 setup – and Sunderland may have to try and fend off bids in January.
