Derby County forward Chris Martin has become Chris Coleman’s top target at Sunderland.

Wales' manager Chris Coleman follows the game from the touchline during the FIFA World Cup 2018 qualification football match between Georgia and Wales in Tbilisi on October 6, 2017.

According to a report in the Northern Echo, Sunderland boss Chris Coleman does not want to close the door on Chris Martin, but realises that he cannot wait forever.

Martin is eager to leave his decision to the last minute over whether he should join Sunderland or not.

The Black Cats want the Derby County striker on loan, as they feel he could improve their forward options.

However, the target-man is not jumping at the chance to move to the Stadium of Light, and is waiting to asses his options.

Coleman knows that he Martin is arguably the best option available to him, given his limited budget, and the Derby forward’s scoring record at Championship level.

But he is also aware that waiting too long could cause Sunderland to miss out on signing a striker altogether.

And Coleman now wants the transfer to go through in the next 48 hours, otherwise he will reluctantly move on to other targets.
