West Bromwich Albion’s hopes of staying in the Premier League suffered a significant blow at the weekend.

According to a report from the Express and Star, Chris Brunt was livid with his West Brom teammates following the final whistle in their defeat to Huddersfield Town at the weekend and criticised Alan Pardew for his tactics in the loss.

The Baggies went into the clash with the Terriers knowing how important it was that they got back to winning ways given that they found themselves seven points off safety in the Premier League and it was David Wagner’s men who were immediately above the bottom three.

However, it was Huddersfield who eased their relegation fears with a 2-1 win. And while West Brom remain seven points off safety, they will know how good an opportunity the game was to earn themselves a lifeline.

It appears that Brunt certainly did. The Express and Star reports that the second-half substitute tore into his teammates at full-time after staying out to applaud the fans before proceeding to slate Pardew.

The Express and Star suggests that Brunt questioned the manager’s decision to play four across the middle when Huddersfield opted for a five-man midfield.

Brunt has certainly earned the right to question what is going on at The Hawthorns having been one of the side’s best performers in recent times – and if he did indeed question his teammates and Pardew, it is unlikely that many of the supporters will criticise him.

On current form, West Brom may as well start preparing for life in the Championship as they are showing few signs which suggest that they are actually about to pull off a great escape – and Brunt may be hoping that a few home truths proves to be the catalyst that gives the team a fighting chance heading into the final weeks of the season.
