According to The Sun, Chelsea don’t want to loan defender Fikayo Tomori to another Premier League club amid links to Newcastle United.

It’s claimed that Nice want to take Tomori on loan in the January transfer window, and have real hope of taking him to France.

‘Several’ Premier League sides have allegedly shown an interest in Tomori, but Chelsea aren’t keen to send him to an English side.

The report doesn’t really explain why, and it does seem a little confusing; Tomori will ultimately be a Premier League player for years to come, so why not give him more experience there?

Additionally, Chelsea wouldn’t exactly be loaning him to a title rival, whilst those title rivals would have to face Tomori in the second half of the season when the Blues wouldn’t.

Maybe they feel he can develop his game by experiencing football in another country, but it does seem a rather surprising stance.

The news will be a blow to Newcastle, as Steve Bruce is keen to bring Tomori to St James’ Park for the second half of the season.

Tomori turned down West Ham in October, and it now seems that a move to France is more likely than staying in the Premier League as the January transfer window looms.
