According to The Mirror, Chelsea are interested in Fulham striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, less than two months since leaving Newcastle United.
Mitrovic, 24, struggled to live up to his billing with the Magpies and clearly wasn’t fancied by Newcastle boss Rafael Benitez, as despite his side lacking goals, Mitrovic was sent out on loan to Fulham for the second half of last season.
The tempestuous striker thrived under fellow Serbian Slavisa Jokanovic, hitting 12 goals in 20 games to help the Cottagers win promotion to the Premier League – and they landed a permanent deal at the end of July.
Questions were asked over Mitrovic’s suitability for the Premier League after his Newcastle struggles, but he has responded with four goals in five Premier League outings for Fulham, starring again under Jokanovic.
Now, The Mirror report that Mitrovic is attracting interest already, with Fulham’s West London rivals Chelsea believed to be keen, as well as a host of Italian clubs.
Blues boss Maurizio Sarri is understood to be unconvinced by Alvaro Morata, whilst with Olivier Giroud the wrong side of 30, Mitrovic could be emerging as physical young option in attack.
A big move to a Champions League-chasing Premier League club in Chelsea would put the magnifying glass on Benitez’s decision to let him leave Newcastle, with some Magpies fans already feeling that he made a mistake in letting him go anyway.
