Newcastle United face competition for the signing of PSG defender Layvin Kurzawa from Premier League giants and UEFA Champions League holders Chelsea.

According to Sky Sports News, the west London side have identified the French international as a potential recruitment this January. Chelsea are desperate to sign a left-back this month with Ben Chilwell set for a lengthy spell out on the sideline.

As per the report, Kurzawa is all but certain to leave Paris this month, with the defender out of favour under Mauricio Pochettino. And a move to the Premier League looks likely for the former AS Monaco star.

As well as Chelsea, Newcastle are said to be interested in Kurzawa. TuttoMercatoWeb report that the northeast side views the defender as an option at left-back, whilst Foot Mercato also report that an abundance of teams also want the 29-year-old.

The likes of Napoli, Inter Milan, Lazio and Roma are all keen on the PSG outcast. However, with Chelsea now in the race for Kurzawa, it appears that the Blues would be the defender’s ideal destination.

The fullback earns a reported £89,000-a-week with the Ligue 1 side. And whilst Newcastle could offer similar wages, Chelsea would likely be willing to increase Kurzawa’s salary should he join the west London club.

Newcastle should allow Kurzawa to join Chelsea this month

Left-back, like many positions, is one that needs improvement for Newcastle. However, when it comes to Kurzawa, the Toon could be making a smart move in allowing the defender to join Chelsea over the northeast club.

The PSG defender has hardly featured this season and is yet to impress Pochettino in the 12 months the Argentine has been at the club. And for Newcastle, they could easily find better value in the market than Kurzawa, who could be a suitable backup for Chelsea this season.
