Chelsea are reportedly looking to sell Wales international Ethan Ampadu for good this summer just one year after the defender was heavily linked with a move to Newcastle United.
According to Gianluca Di Marzio, the 21-year-old centre-back is in talks to join Serie A side Spezia on a permanent deal, with the Exeter-born prospect seemingly eager to leave west London for good in search of regular football following three seasons out on loan.
Ampadu was a regular for Venezia last season, and although the Venetian side were relegated from the top-flight, the Chelsea prospect was impressive in his one year in Italy, with Spezia now working on signing the versatile defender for good as the Blues look to sell the youngster.
Regarded by many as one of Chelsea’s best youth talents and hailed by Marina Granovskaia as a ‘tremendous prospect’, Newcastle were reportedly interested in signing Ampadu last summer under Steve Bruce, however, the former Magpies boss failed to land the Wales regular on loan as the defender joined Venezia.
12 months later, and now it appears that Chelsea are looking to sell Ampadu for good, with Spezia leading the charge to sign the former Exeter City starlet, and for Newcastle, they could do with reigniting their interest in the 21-year-old this summer under Eddie Howe.
Whilst Sven Botman has signed for the club, Chelsea looking to sell Ampadu presents an incredible opportunity for Newcastle land one of Britain’s best youth prospects, with the Toon more than having the funds to be able to sign the Welsh talent over Spezia, who could struggle in Serie A next season.
Newcastle must take advantage of Chelsea looking to sell Ampadu

Chelsea have had an unusual season, as you would expect given the new ownership at the club, but the reported decision to sell Ampadu could be one that agitates a lot of supporters given how highly-rated the youngster is, but for Newcastle, they must look to reignite their interest in the 21-year-old.
After all, signing Ampadu will bring the average age of the squad down by a great deal, and the defender, who can also play in midfield, would be an incredible versatile option for Howe in the future, with the youngster set to become one of the best British players in the coming years.
