Chelsea have reportedly won the race for Crewe Alexandra striker George Nunn.
According to the Daily Mail, Chelsea’s deal to sign Tottenham Hotspur target George Nunn will cost them just £300,000 in compensation.
Nunn, 16, has been coming up through the famed Crewe Alexandra ranks, and his prolific record at youth level has triggered major interest in his signature.
Tottenham had been keen to land Nunn and place him in their youth setup, where would have hopefully been able to eventually learn and develop under Mauricio Pochettino.
However, instead of following in the footsteps of Eric Dier and Dele Alli, Nunn has allegedly chosen a move to Chelsea instead, meaning Spurs have lost out to their London rivals.
The Daily Mail now claim that the deal will cost Chelsea £300,000 in compensation, and he will link up with Jody Morris’ Under-18 side in the near future as he prepares to begin his Blues career.
Chelsea pulled off a similar deal for Rangers talent Billy Gilmour in 2017, and they will seemingly continue to hoover up young talent from other clubs despite the perception that young players don’t get chances with the Blues.
Nunn will now hope to follow in the footsteps of ex-Crewe youth talents such as Dean Ashton, Rob Hulse, Seth Johnson, Billy Jones, Danny Murphy, Nick Powell, David Vaughan and Ashley Westwood, who all played Premier League football.
