The London Evening Standard claim Chelsea are expected to make a second approach to Tottenham Hotspur to sign striker Fernando Llorente.

It is believed that Chelsea have already been foiled once in an attempt to sign the 32-year-old this month, as Antonio Conte looks to add another striker to his side before the window’s deadline on January 31 at 11pm.

The Blues have been linked with the likes of West Ham’s Andy Carroll, Stoke City’s Peter Crouch and Roma striker Edin Dzeko, with the report also suggesting that Conte has had a loan move rejected for Arsenal’s Olivier Giroud.

Conte worked with target man Llorente during the duo’s time together at Italian champions Juventus, and is believed to have tried to sign him from Swansea City last January and last summer, only for Spurs to beat them to it.

However, Spurs could be willing to let Llorente leave after scoring just two goals in 22 league and cup appearances for the north Londoners, failing to show the kind of form that saw him find the back of the net 15 times in 35 Swansea outings.

He remains as back-up to Harry Kane, making just 13 Premier League appearances in which he has clocked up only 213 minutes of league action.

Llorente, a 24-time Spain international, has 18 months remaining on his Tottenham contract but he may opt to reunite with Conte at Stamford Bridge with Chelsea looking to land him on loan.
