Graham Potter’s Chelsea do not want to pay £106 million for Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez, a player Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool also want to sign, according to The Athletic.
Chelsea stance on Liverpool target Enzo Fernandez
The report published this morning has claimed that Liverpool and Chelsea both want to sign Fernandez, who won the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Argentina, from Benfica in the January transfer window.
The Portuguese giants want the 21-year-old’s release clause of £106 million to be paid in full.
Chelsea do not want to do that although they are in talks with Benfica, according to the report, which has added that the former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners do not think that any other club will pay £106 million for a 21-year-old midfielder who moved to Europe from River Plate only in the summer of 2022 and has made a handful of appearances for his Portuguese club.

90min reported last month that Liverpool have held talks with Benfica over Fernandez.
Could a January transfer happen?
In our view, Benfica may not sell Enzo Fernandez to Chelsea or Liverpool for anything less than his release clause.
The Portuguese giants are not under financial pressure to do so.
Benfica could easily keep Fernandez in the team for the rest of the season and enhance their chances of winning the Portuguese Primeira Liga title this campaign.
