According to a report in The Athletic, Chelsea have taken a positive step towards keeping Tottenham target Olivier Giroud at the club beyond January after giving him more game time in recent weeks.
The report states that the Frenchman was keen to leave Chelsea in January after his French national team manager Didier Deschamps told him he needs to be playing more if he wants to continue playing for his country.
This led to a number of teams being linked with a move for Giroud, including Tottenham Hotspur.
Spurs’ links to Giroud certainly got a number of fans excited, especially after he netted four goals in the Champions League on Thursday, with many supporters on social media urging him to join the club after his incredible display of goalscoring.
Unfortunately, it seems as though Chelsea are moving in the right direction when it comes to convincing Giroud to stay at Stamford Bridge beyond the winter as he’s been given more minutes in recent weeks.

The salt in the wound for Tottenham is that Giroud’s increased minutes for their London rivals has coincided with an excellent run of form, with the striker scoring five goals in his last two Champions League appearances.
Spurs could really do with a player like that as we’ve already discussed the fact that a serious injury to Harry Kane could derail their title challenge, and the arrival of Giroud, would alleviate some of the pressures on Kane’s shoulders as he’s another proven goalscorer at the top level.
