Report: Chelsea set to bid £40m for Tottenham ace Danny Rose, believe ‘poisonous relationship’ lifted

Chelsea boss Antonio Conte particularly keen on Tottenham star.

Antonio Conte has told Chelsea to bid for Tottenham Hotspur defender Danny Rose, according to The Sun.

The Italian is keen to improve his Chelsea squad after losing the Community Shield on penalties to Arsenal, and he has identified Rose as a key signing.

Rose is Conte’s first choice to sign at left-back, with Southampton’s Ryan Bertrand a back up.

The Sun report that Chelsea are planning a £40 million bid and are hopeful it will be enough to tempt Spurs.

The two clubs are bitter rivals on and off the pitch and have not done business with each other dating back to a fall out over Luka Modric back in 2012.

Chelsea then incensed Spurs a year later by beating them to the signing of Willian.

Yet The Sun claim the ‘poisonous atmosphere’ which existed two years ago between the two clubs when Chelsea first registered interest in Rose, has lifted, and they are hopeful of a deal.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy may see it differently.

It would still come as a surprise if Tottenham let Rose leave after allowing Kyle Walker to depart already this summer.
