Tottenham Hotspur could miss out on Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake.
According to The Sun, Chelsea are looking to bring Bournemouth defender Nathan Ake back to Stamford Bridge in a £40million swoop this summer.
Ake, 23, joined Chelsea from Feyenoord in his native Netherlands back in 2011, but he failed to establish himself in West London.
The centre back made just 17 appearances for Chelsea before being sold to Bournemouth in 2017, having already enjoyed a productive loan spell on the South Coast.
Ake has flourished at the Vitality Stadium, becoming one of the top centre backs in the Premier League, whilst he has also chipped in with three goals this season.
Sky Sports recently reported that Tottenham want to sign Ake, viewing the Dutch international as a long-term successor to Jan Vertonghen in the heart of Mauricio Pochettino’s back line.
However, Spurs could be pipped by Chelsea, as The Sun believe that the Blues are ready to re-sign Ake for a huge £40million – twice the amount they sold him for – this summer.
Chelsea are believed to have a buy-back clause or at least a first option in Ake’s Bournemouth deal, meaning they are the clear favourites for his signature anyway.
After struggling for first-team football once at Chelsea before, Ake may prefer a move to Spurs, especially as Maurizio Sarri already can’t even give football to a promising young defender Andreas Christensen, but Chelsea may just be able to get in and activate their clause before Spurs and firm up their interest.
