Chelsea are willing to offer a swap deal involving Kepa Arrizabalaga for Tottenham Hotspur target Andre Onana.
That’s according to a report from Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, who claim that Chelsea really want Onana.
It’s suggested that Chelsea scouts will be watching Onana in action for Inter against Juventus tonight.
Chelsea want to watch Onana against AC Milan in the semi-finals of the Champions League too.
The report claims that Chelsea are willing to engineer a part-exchange deal for Onana, putting fellow goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga on the table.
That is backed up by the London Evening Standard, who suggest that Edouard Mendy would be available for a swap as well.
Chelsea seemingly want to offload a goalkeeper before bringing one in and would like to do it all in one fell swoop.
Kepa cost £72million back in 2018 but has failed to live up to that billing and may now be offered up to Inter.
Tottenham Hotspur could miss out on Andre Onana
Chelsea aren’t exactly the only Premier League club interested in signing Onana.
90Min reported in February that Inter are open to selling Onana this summer in order to try and raise vital funds.
That report suggested that Tottenham and Manchester United were both rivalling Chelsea for Onana.
Tottenham certainly need to think about bringing in a new goalkeeper this summer.
Hugo Lloris appears to be coming to the end of his Tottenham career and Fraser Forster isn’t a long-term solution.
Onana only left Ajax for Inter last summer but is already attracting major interest.
Tottenham don’t have a manager or director of football right now, so it’s hard to see them pushing to sign anyone right now.
That leaves the door open for Chelsea to swoop in and try to give Mauricio Pochettino a new goalkeeper for the summer.
Pochettino is set to break Tottenham hearts and become Chelsea boss in the coming days.
A move for Onana wouldn’t have the same effect, but it would still be a frustration for Spurs as Chelsea move forward whilst Tottenham are in chaos.
