Chelsea are now interested in signing Gabri Veiga amid claims Liverpool are leading the race to land him this summer.

Liverpool are thought to be leading the hunt for Gabri Veiga but Chelsea are now joining the race too.

That is according to The Guardian, who claim that Chelsea have now entered the race to land Veiga.

The Celta Vigo midfielder has become one of the top wonderkids in Europe and is unsurprisingly a wanted man.

Veiga, 21, racked up 11 goals from midfield as he became La Liga’s breakout star of the season.

Veiga even scored twice on the final day of the season, helping Celta claim a 2-1 win over Barcelona to avoid relegation.

The youngster left the pitch in tears in what many will feel is a nod to leaving Celta this summer.

Chelsea have been recruiting young players like Mykhailo Mudryk, Benoit Badiashile and Noni Madueke, with Veiga fitting a similar bill.

Veiga has a release clause worth around €40million (£34million), with Celta seemingly in a weakened position if they want to keep their prized talent.

Liverpool reportedly lead the race for Gabri Veiga

Chelsea will face a battle with numerous Premier League clubs for Veiga – but especially Liverpool.

The Northern Echo claim that Newcastle United have been in talks to try and sign Veiga.

However, the feeling is that Liverpool have already completed a lot of the groundwork in their attempts to sign Veiga and that their talks are advanced.

Liverpool are desperate to bolster their midfield options this summer and are set to snap up Brighton and Hove Albion star Alexis Mac Allister.

Jurgen Klopp still needs more in midfield though and Veiga has emerged as a prime target for the Reds.

Todd Boehly has been throwing money around like it’s going out of fashion and that means Liverpool may now fear being hijacked in their pursuit of Veiga.
