According to 90min, Chelsea have held talks with Paul Mitchell over a move to Stamford Bridge after he left Tottenham in 2016.

Chelsea interview Paul Mitchell

Well, the 41-year-old helped bring the likes of Dele Alli and Heung-min Son to Tottenham while working alongside Mauricio Pochettino, before a fallout with Daniel Levy saw him leave Spurs in 2016.

Mitchell is currently working as Sporting Director at Monaco after a period as Head of Recruitment and Development at RB Leipzig, although Chelsea are interested in bringing him back to London.

90min believe Todd Boehly has identified the Englishman as an option to become the new Director of Football at Stamford Bridge, where he would work alongside the newly appointed Graham Potter.

Victor Orta – who currently works at Leeds – is also on the shortlist, along with Michael Edwards, Monchi, Tim Steidten, Lee Congerton and Luis Campos.

Chelsea have made Edwards their No.1 target, although the transfer expert is insistent of taking a break from football until 2023 after deciding to leave Liverpool at the end of last season.

Boehly is keen to offer him a role from July 1st onwards, although it remains to be seen if Edwards will accept.

Chelsea could make Tottenham regret losing Paul Mitchell

In truth, it was a surprise to see Mitchell leave Tottenham given his fine recruitment work in N17, which also included deals for Kieran Trippier and Toby Alderweireld.

With Levy at the helm, he didn’t always have millions to work with in the market, but Boehly has already shown plenty of intent to spend heavily since replacing Roman Abramovich.

Therefore, if Mitchell is able to use those funds, as well as his knowledge of the market and his contacts to bring some of Europe’s very best talent to west London, it would surely make Tottenham feel quite regretful.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as Mitchell could soon be returning to London.
