Report: Chelsea have £62m offer rejected for ‘exceptional’ Man City target

Chelsea have reportedly had an €75m (£62m) transfer offer rejected from Leicester City for Wesley Fofana, with Manchester City also interested in signing the 21-year-old defender.

According to L’Equipe, the Blues have had an opening bid shot down by the Foxes as Chelsea look to sign Fofana, with the west London side eager to land another central defender following the departures of Antonio Rudiger and Andreas Christensen this summer.

Chelsea have already signed Senegal international Kalidou Koulibaly, and now, Thomas Tuchel has turned his sights on Fofana, with City also reportedly interested in landing the Leicester star, who could cost as much as £85m according to the Athletic this summer.

With Fofana only joining Brendan Rodgers side two years ago, the Foxes are under no pressure to sell this summer, yet with reports suggesting that the defender is keen to move to Chelsea, Leicester could be willing to let the centre-back leave for the Premier League giants, especially of they up their £62m offer.

Indeed, Chelsea are desperate for a second centre-back signing this summer, and given Fofana’s age and incredible reputation already, the 21-year-old youngster could be perfect for what the Blues are looking for, much to the dismay of City, who could have been perfect for the former Saint-Etienne starlet.

Whilst the reigning Premier League champions have no real need for a centre-back, Fofana could be an excellent long-term option for City and a potential replacement for the likes of John Stones and Nathan Ake in the future, yet with Chelsea now making an offer to sign the Foxes star, the Blues could now be in the driving seat to win the race.

Chelsea will now go all out to beat City to Fofana signing

Fofana is one of the Premier League’s most exciting U-21 talents, and with Chelsea making an offer to sign the defender, it won’t be long before the Blues are back with another bid that could crack Leicester’s resistance to keeping the promising French centre-back.

Whilst City could challenge for the signing of Fofana, Chelsea seem determined to beat their English rivals to the defender, and because of this, Tuchel could easily go all out to bring the 21-year-old to Stamford Bridge in what could be one of the biggest deals of the summer.
