According to Bild, Antonio Rudiger would prefer to stay at Chelsea when his contract expires this summer, amid interest from Liverpool and Newcastle.

What’s the story?

Well, this is something of a blow to Jürgen Klopp and Eddie Howe.

It was the Daily Mail who revealed that Newcastle are interested in signing the £100,000-a-week man, whereas Eurosport claimed Liverpool are keen.

Now, however, they may be forced to watch him sign an extension at Stamford Bridge.

Bild’s Christian Falk believes the likes of Barcelona, Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus are also sniffing around the situation.

The quartet of European giants are hoping to convince Rudiger to make a decision before Chelsea welcome new owners, where the Blues would then be able to sort out a new contract for the 29-year-old.

As things stand, Chelsea are unable to work on contract negotiations after Roman Abramovich was sanctioned by the UK Government.

Liverpool & Newcastle may be upset by Chelsea

If Chelsea can secure new ownership soon, then we feel Liverpool and Newcastle should prepare themselves for disappointment.

Rudiger seems to love life in west London, where he is a key player and also performing at a world class level under Thomas Tuchel.

Everything is in place for the £29m man to bolster his reputation as one of the best in Europe at Chelsea, so we see no reason why he’d want to throw that all away.

Having said that, be sure to keep an eye on this saga, as a lot depends on who takes the reins from Abramovich.
