Chelsea could terminate the contract of Everton target Michy Batshuayi in the final days of the summer transfer window, according to journalist Simon Phillips.

The well-known and well-respected journalist has told GiveMeSport that Chelsea could decide to mutually terminate the contract of striker Batshuayi to move him on.

It was Phillips who told GiveMeSport last week that Everton remain keen on signing the Chelsea striker before the summer transfer window closes on Thursday.

90min reported on August 4 that Everton are interested in the Belgium international striker, who earns £90,000 per week as salary at the moment (Spotrac).

Chelsea could terminate Everton target Michy Batshuayi’s contract

Phillips told GiveMeSport: “I wouldn’t rule out contract terminations for players such as Batshuayi.

“That was mentioned to me a few weeks ago, that if Chelsea still have players like him and Kenedy still in the squad come the last week, then they’re not against terminating their contracts just to move them on and give Tuchel a squad of players that, ideally, he’s going to be confident to pick.”

Boost for Everton

In our view, if Chelsea decide to let Michy Batshuayi leave now, then it would enhance Everton’s chances of signing the striker.

The Toffees would not have to worry about negotiating a transfer fee with Chelsea and would have to deal with only the Belgian and his agents.

Now, whether or not Everton should sign Batshuayi is up for debate.

Although the 28-year-old has scored some good goals and has played well on occasions in the Premier League, he has been unable to prove that he can deliver the goods consistently in English football.

Batshuayi has scored 15 goals and created two big chances in 77 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
